Popped into one of our favorite city’s library ((we wrote the first book in Austin)) and spied The Rule of One. So much of a writer’s life is isolating put-your-head-down kind of work, so it’s always exhilarating when we pop our heads up to look around and see that our work is out there, reaching people.

What’s also exhilarating is to *finally* be able to say our debut adult novel, EXILES, comes out this year! Can’t wait to see Exiles on library shelves soon 🤗📚

🔥Writing on the road🔥We’re lucky since our dogs (aka our writing mascots) love being in the car for days at a time. Trying to tame our anxieties shouting at us to achieve a fresh page with every mile. Other than that, yay for leaving our writers’ cave & becoming adventure writers. 😂🌵🚗 ...

Next steps, you might ask?

Waving goodbye to LA soon for a month to head out on that open road and WRITE. It’s so good to change things up and the holidays are 🙌🏻 for that. Starting to feel the Xmas feels 🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲

Watched our first Christmas movie the other night, just the holiday cheese we needed 🎄♥️. Anyone have any favorites??

🍂Not to get too carried away🍂but… WE OFFICIALLY TURNED IN OUR COPYEDIT! The last big edit for Exiles 🎉 Next stop… cover and ARCs (advanced readers copies)!!

Also had an exciting talk with our science advisor for the series this morning about the sequel! Stakes will be raised, the action will be amplified and our characters will question everything. We are now buzzing to get back to writing book 2 🤗
...

Welp, started drafting chapters for our *5th* book– the sequel to Exiles. This series will be a duology, our first time ending a story in two books. 😬😬 Let’s see how this goes…

We always hear other authors talk about how they can feel paralyzed, like they have never written a book before when they’re staring back at that first blank page. Even if it *is* book number five. We are definitely feeling that fear, but that’s good. It means we are taking chances, pushing ourselves and our stories. So, here’s to embracing the fear 👊🏻👩🏼‍💻To paraphrase Jade, one of our characters, here’s to being scared but racing into the flames nonetheless.

🌻Put the petal to the metal🌻 We’ve been starting work on book 2 of EXILES annnnd we’re not accelerating as fast as we’d hoped. Building another story from its foundation after just completing the first one can be a bit daunting, but we’re taking heart that this is our usual process. Now is the time to slow down, dream, let the characters tell us where they want us to take them. So for now we’ll just surround ourselves with flowers and remember that it takes patience to fully bloom. 📚 ...

Gotta say… starting work on a sequel when only two other souls have read the first book (our editors 😆🤍) is a bit … lonely & bizarre.

Every day when we are out with friends or family, we find ourselves pointing out a certain phrase, location or item of clothing and saying, “Oh, that’s SO Jade or Crys” or “Oh my god, I feel like an Exile right now.” And no one knows what the hell we are taking about 😭🤣 We are just living in our own world.

Can’t wait for the coming days when all the hard work & passion for this story is wrapped in a shiny cover, so Exiles can have a face, a first hint at what’s inside! 📚

Honestly, can’t wait to share more 🌴

✨Line edit for EXILES turned in 😭✨ She’s off to copy edit now, which means we can finally turn our attention to its sequel. The journey of Book 5 is about to begin 😳 (cue the scene of Theoden getting dressed in epic lighting before the Battle of Helm’s Deep— “And so it begins…”) ...

✨Three years ago today we became published authors✨ The Rule of One, our debut book, was released into the world, and Ava and Mira, the twin sisters who had lived in our heads for over seven years, were finally set free and shared with readers from Texas all the way to France and the Czech Republic.

This artwork depicts one of our favorite scenes in the book, when Ava and Mira are out on the open road in the middle of nowhere West Texas, leaving a past they can no longer return to and entering a dangerous future they’re not sure they want, no less if they’ll survive, but they ride off into the unknown nonetheless because what they *do* know is they have each other. 💛

My very natural thinking pose. 😊

We got our line edits for EXILES a tad early. Line edits are the last major revisions for a book before it heads to copyedits and then the production of advanced readers copies when people will actually get to read & hold our book for the first time 😵😵😵

Line edits are true to its name. Our editor literally goes line by line to give thoughts, questions, but mostly ✂️✂️✂️. We very lovingly call our editor @brasswax Jason Scissorhands. 🖤🖤

EXILES is really starting to feel like a real book and we couldn’t be more excited!!
